Since receiving her very first painting lesson from her aunt at the age of twelve, Sally Donovan has maintained a life-long passion for her artistic endeavors that has spanned a range of styles and subjects over the years. Following her study at the Art Students League in New York City, she has spent much of the last thirty years producing compositions of natural landscapes from the locales close to home and distant places.
I have three projects on the calendar for the remainder of 2021 into the early months 2022. One totally new endeavor of a Narrative Painting. A large landscape (likened to comfort food) and a vertical figure painting of a tall adult and small child. All in the mix for upcoming work.
Since entering numerous juried shows and selling throughout these last 20 years, the subjects and compositions I have often chosen are more complex. A composition may be formed through observation of the landscape that holds light and color, an urban scene with its collection of geometric shapes that are united by design, or figure paintings that communicate care and evoke feelings.
In recent years the artist has expanded her repertoire to include urban, industrial and figurative paintings. Her most recent prize winning work, The Port of Miami, captures the quiet moments of a bustling workplace in exquisite detail. Sally is a member of the Aiken Artists Guild, Aiken Center for the Arts, The Morris Museum in Augusta GA, and WREN Gallery in New Hampshire. Her works of art are also part of private collections throughout the United States.
